KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 8 (Bernama) -- The Energy Regulatory Insights Forum 2025 (ERI 2025), themed “Shaping a Sustainable Energy Future” has surpassed its initial target of 500 participants, reaching 600, with additional names already on the waiting list, said Energy Commission (EC) chief executive officer Siti Safinah Salleh.
She said that, given the overwhelming response, the commission hopes to make the forum an annual event.
“We hope to make this an annual event. This is our first attempt this year using this format. We are very happy with the positive support, and in fact, it was over-subscribed,” she told the media after the launching ceremony of ERI 2025 here, today.
At the same time, the Energy Commission also launched the Energy Commission’s 25th Anniversary Logo, ST Strategic Plan 2026-2030 and ST Transformation Plan, which was launched by Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.
In his speech, Shamsul Azri said this five-year plan serves as a roadmap for the Energy Commission to transition from a traditional regulator to a modern, agile and credible regulatory institution, in line with the aspirations of the MADANI Economy.
He said the ST Transformation Plan is a comprehensive roadmap to make the Energy Commission a modern, agile and high-impact energy regulator.
“The plan focuses on six strategic themes: governance, organisational structure, digitalisation, capability building, stakeholder engagement, and financial sustainability.
“Implementation will be phased—starting with setting up strong foundations and quick wins, followed by accelerating execution and embedding new structures and culture and finally reviewing outcomes for future positioning,” he said.
Shamsul Azri said the key actions include forming a dedicated transformation team, upgrading digital systems, reskilling staff, and appointing “Change Agents” as internal consultants to drive each theme.
He also said that this transformation will shift the Energy Commission from a traditional regulator to a modern, adaptive institution and economic regulation, and strategic stakeholder collaboration,” he added.
The organisation of ERI 2025, held on December 8, serves as a platform that brings together key stakeholders from both domestic and international arenas to discuss the current challenges of the energy transition, identify new opportunities, and strengthen preparedness in terms of regulations, technology, and finance.
The forum comprises two insight sessions, a parallel dialogue session and a leaders-in-conversation segment called “Energy in the Context of the Economy, Finance and Society”.
Also present as speakers were Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Liew Chin Tong, Taylor’s University Adjunct Professor Dr. Ong Kian Ming, and HSBC non-independent executive director and chief executive officer Datuk Omar Siddiq Amin Noer Rashid.
