KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 12 (Bernama) -- Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail has said that the Royal Malaysia Police’s (PDRM) integrity problems are a pressing issue requiring sustained focus and intervention.
He was referring to the fact that 79 out of 1,022 corruption cases reported to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) from January to September this year involved the force’s personnel.
He called this a stark reminder for the force to strengthen its culture of integrity and tighten internal oversight to prevent misconduct and ethical breaches.
“As the nation's principal enforcement agency, it is our duty to ensure integrity is the core of every action and decision,” he said at the Reject Corruption recognition awards and 2025 Integrity Month celebration at the PDRM College today.
Mohd Khalid added that the Integrity and Standard Compliance Department (JIPS) has also opened 1,523 disciplinary investigation papers for various offences, including 47 corruption-related cases.
He confirmed that in line with national policy, PDRM is committed to developing its Organisation Anti-Corruption Strategy (OACS-PDRM), based on the National Anti-Corruption Strategy, to strengthen integrity, governance and anti-corruption efforts.
Mohd Khalid called on all departments and units to work together, emphasising that collaboration is essential to develop a comprehensive, well-structured and effective anti-corruption strategy for the police force.
“Let us continue to strengthen preventive measures, enhance compliance oversight, and instil a culture of integrity at every level of the organisation. We must collectively protect the force's image from negative influences that tarnish our good name,” he urged.
Mohd Khalid commended JIPS and other involved units for their role in PDRM winning the Silver Award at the 2025 Integrity, Governance and Anti-Corruption Award (AIGA) on Oct 22.
He said this achievement proves PDRM is on the right track in strengthening its policies, ensuring standard compliance and intensifying integrity-building initiatives among its personnel.
Earlier, Mohd Khalid presented "Reject Corruption" recognition certificates to 41 police officers and personnel, and Integrity Awards to eight other officers, who demonstrated strong principles by refusing bribes, despite being offered amounts ranging from RM200 to RM250,000.
“You are all the best role models to be emulated. May this recognition not only motivate the recipients but also serve as a source of inspiration for all PDRM members to consistently uphold integrity in every action and decision,” he said.
