LABUAN, Nov 14 (Bernama) -- Six Filipino undocumented migrants were detained during two separate immigration operations on Nov 12.
Labuan Immigration director Raymond Entalai said that they conducted Op Dandan and Op Gegar around the town centre from 8 pm to 11 pm following intelligence gathering and surveillance by the department.
"The enforcement team, led by Fatrick James and supported by six officers of various ranks from the Enforcement Division of the Labuan Immigration Department, also conducted checks on several business premises such as massage parlours suspected of employing undocumented workers,” he told Bernama today.
He said 17 individuals - eight Malaysians and nine Filipinos - were inspected during the joint operation, resulting in six of the Filipino nationals being detained for failing to produce valid documents or passes and for allegedly working without proper permits in Labuan.
“All those detained have been placed at the Labuan Police Headquarters and the Labuan Immigration Depot,” he said, adding that two summonses were also issued to two witnesses to assist in the investigation.
Raymond warned that legal action would be taken against those who harbour illegal immigrants and urged the public to come forward and assist the department in its ongoing enforcement efforts.
