KANGAR, Nov 14 (Bernama) -- The Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM) in Perlis seized 91.5 kilogrammes (kg) of cannabis valued at about RM533,000 in Kuala Perlis near here in October.
Perlis Customs director Ismail Hashim said the 41.5 kg of cannabis flowers worth RM378,000 were seized by his department during an inspection in the mangrove area of Pulau Ketam in Kuala Perlis waters at 1.30 am, on Oct 24.
“The results of the inspection found two white sacks and one plastic package left on a tree in suspicious condition.
“A thorough inspection of all the packages found that there were 39 compressed pieces and 12 airtight transparent plastic packages containing dried plants suspected of being cannabis flowers,” he said at a press conference at the State Customs Complex here today.
Ismail said his party also seized 50 kg of cannabis worth RM155,000 in a raid on a private jetty at the estuary near Kuala Perlis at 8 pm, Oct 28.
“The results of the raid found three sack packages left on the jetty platform. A close inspection of the sacks found 50 compressed pieces of suspected drugs,” he said.
He said the cannabis flowers were more expensive in value than the value of the 50 kg of cannabis seized, while cannabis is a drug listed under Part 1, First Schedule, Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
