‎SHAH ALAM, Dec 2 (Bernama) -- Police have busted an online fraud syndicate involving lucky draws and forex through two separate raids on two three-storey terrace houses that were used as call centres in Sunsuria City, Sepang on Nov 26.

‎Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said the first raid at about 1 pm involved an online lucky draw fraud syndicate and arrested 14 foreigners, including 10 men and four women aged between 25 and 37.

‎‎He said the second raid at 5 pm in the same area also involved an online forex fraud syndicate with the arrest of 10 foreigners, including seven men and three women aged between 21 and 35.

"Initial investigations found that both cases were different syndicates targeting Chinese nationals as victims. It is believed that they entered Malaysia through the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) since June using social visit passes and work passes.

"Checks are also being made with the Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) to confirm the authenticity of their documents," he said at the Selangor Commercial Crime Investigation Department's success press conference here today.

Shazeli said that for the lucky draw scam, the suspect used the 'QQ (Jin Chan)' application as an e-advertising platform to induce the victim to buy lucky numbers that promised cash prizes when they did not exist.

He said that for the forex scam, the suspect involved would look for the victim through the 'Tonghuasun' application before using Telegram for transactions with the victim being promised high profit returns in non-existent investment.

He said the total amount seized for both cases is RM60,000 involving items including laptops, mobile phones and routers.

‎"All suspects in the first and second arrests are being remanded for seven days starting from Nov 27 until tomorrow.

‎"A review also found that all those arrested have no criminal records and are free from the influence of drugs," he said.

‎The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code and Section 120B of the Penal Code.
