PSM, JPKK PROPOSE RM2,000 MINIMUM WAGE VIA MEMO TO HR MINISTER

27/09/2024 03:33 PM

PUTRAJAYA, Sept 27 (Bernama) -- Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) and the Government Contract Workers Network (JPKK) submitted a memorandum today to Human Resources Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong, urging the government to set the minimum wage at RM2,000.

The memorandum was handed over by PSM deputy chairman S. Arulchelvan and PSM's Workers Bureau chief R. Saratbabu Raman to Sim's representative at the Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA) earlier today.

Speaking to Bernama, Saratbabu expressed hope that KESUMA would thoroughly review the data presented in the memorandum and decide on a new minimum wage for workers in the country.

“We do not want the wage to be raised to just RM1,700, as the cost of living has increased, and there needs to be a reasonable adjustment for a decent life, especially for the B40 and M40 groups,” he said.

Previously, Sim had stated that the government would review the minimum wage, which was last revised from RM1,200 to RM1,500 in May 2022.
