SYED HUSSIEN URGES MAHKOTA BY-ELECTION VOTERS TO REFLECT SUPPORT IN BALLOT BOX

27/09/2024 08:01 PM

KLUANG, Sept 28 (Bernama) -- Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah once again urged voters in the Mahkota state assembly by-election to return to vote tomorrow.

He emphasised that voter support needs to be reflected in the ballot box to enable building a better future for the people of Mahkota through the state government’s administration.

"We have engaged with more than the majority of voters here, from various segments of society. And we have listened and taken note of their hopes and aspirations.

"Alhamdulillah, throughout the campaign, I have witnessed the strong spirit of the Mahkota community. The spirit of racial and religious diversity in harmony is something we must continue to uphold," he said when met today.

When asked about opposition attempts to tarnish his reputation with allegations of criminal conduct, Syed Hussien said he refuses to let untruths affect the momentum of his campaign.

"It’s not true, and the police have already issued a statement confirming I have no criminal record or have ever been charged in court. The welfare of the people must be the priority, and that is what I will continue to focus on moving forward," he said.

The allegations were also denied by BN Chairman Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who clarified the actual incident when Syed Hussien was in his 20s. He explained that Syed Hussien had attempted to help a blind man who was being harassed and beaten by a group of men.

Kluang District police chief ACP Bahrin Mohd Noh confirmed yesterday that Syed Hussien’s name is not in the criminal records registry.

The Mahkota by-election is a straight contest between Syed Hussien and Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate Mohamad Haizan Jaafar.

It is being held following the death of the incumbent, Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain, 63, on Aug 2 while she was receiving treatment at the Enche' Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital.
