TG KEMANG TENTS ISSUE: N. SEMBILAN GOVERNMENT TO DISCUSS WITH TRADERS

27/09/2024 10:38 PM

SEREMBAN, Sept 27 (Bernama) -- The Negeri Sembilan government will in the near future discuss with traders around Telok Kemang beach, Port Dickson on the issue of the rows of rented tents in the area that are blocking the public’s view.

State Tourism, Arts and Culture Action Committee chairman Nicole Tan Lee Koon said various aspects will be evaluated before making a decision since most entrepreneurs have been operating and doing business there for a long time.

"Several months ago, we decided that tents will not be allowed in Pantai Cahaya Negeri and Pantai Saujana, and we received various criticisms (for this). Right now, we cannot make a sudden decision as we need some time to solve this problem,” she said.

“In this case, we want a win-win situation, therefore, we will have discussions on how to solve this matter harmoniously so that the tents do not block the scenery and will look more orderly."

She said this to reporters here today after the opening ceremony of the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) Fair 2024 Negeri Sembilan (MATTA Negeri Sembilan), which was also attended by MATTA president Nigel Wong and Negeri Sembilan MATTA chairman Lee Fook Moi.

Earlier, a video that went viral on social media criticised the tents along Telok Kemang beach, saying that it marred the beauty of the area and was a hindrance to those wanting to have fun on the beach.

Meanwhile, Tan said the arrival of domestic tourists to Negeri Sembilan in September was more than 15 million people, exceeding the set target. However, she said foreign tourist arrivals were slightly reduced compared to last year, and called upon tourism agencies to join the state government in proactively developing the tourism sector in Negeri Sembilan.
