KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 29 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Armed Forces, through the Malaysia Battalion (MALBATT) 850-12, organised a Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) Jiwa Murni Programme to channel aid to the local community at Tibnine Government Hospital, Lebanon, to help them face the winter season.
In a statement today, the Malaysian Armed Forces headquarters said the aid was handed over to the hospital's representative, Hasan Abbas, by MALBATT 850-12 commander Col Johan Effendi Mohd Shalleh on Tuesday.
Among the items donated were medicines, hospital equipment, toys, and children's reading materials contributed by Malaysian non-governmental organisations.
“This initiative aims to ease the burden on the local community and support the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) mission in promoting peace and well-being.
“The success of this programme marks a significant first step in building trust and close ties between the peacekeeping forces and the local community,” the statement read.
The statement also noted that the CIMIC programme was the first activity carried out by MALBATT 850-12 since assuming operational duties on Nov 16.
