KUALA SELANGOR, Dec 1 (Bernama) -- Kampung Ujong Permatang here has been selected as an adopted village by the Malaysia Cooperative Societies Commission (SKM) under the "One Leader, One Village" (Santuni MADANI) programme.

SKM chief executive officer Datuk Rusli Jaafar said that to enhance the village’s economic potential, SKM has handed over a letter of approval for the pre-registration of the first cooperative in the village.

"I urge the committee or the prospective cooperative board to explore opportunities, as this area focuses mainly on agriculture.

"Perhaps they could consider establishing a centre for agricultural produce collection or a consumer store managed cooperatively. SKM will assist in guiding the cooperative's formation here and ensure it becomes a model of success," he said when met by Bernama after officiating at the Santuni MADANI programme in Kampung Ujong Permatang today.

According to him, the village of 740 people has been provided with information and awareness about the importance and benefits of cooperatives by Selangor SKM.

"The next step for the Village Development and Security Committee is to hold a general meeting and ensure all documents are submitted for further action," he said.

As part of today's programme, SKM also organised a MADANI Cooperative Sale, offering a 30 per cent discount on food items such as beef, chicken and vegetables.

Additionally, the commission contributed RM48,550 for the upgrading of Sekolah Rendah Agama Ujong Permatang to benefit nearly 100 students in the village.

The Santuni MADANI programme, initiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, aims to maximise the potential of villages and empower communities through direct engagement and outreach to identify socioeconomic issues and residents’ needs.
