PUTRAJAYA, Nov 12 (Bernama) -- Civil servants must continually strive to improve themselves and the quality of their service instead of being content with existing achievements, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
He stressed the need to strengthen sincerity, sense of responsibility, and integrity in public service, in line with Prophet Muhammad’s teachings on excellence in work.
“Ranks, titles, awards, or positions mean little if we have not fulfilled our duties with honesty and dedication. Do our ideas truly uplift the nation and help those who are marginalised?
“These are questions of values and responsibility that must be instilled within us to purify intentions and strengthen integrity,” Anwar said at the National Development Symposium and Awards (SPAPN) 2025 today.
Also present were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Federal Territories Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar and Director-General of Public Service Tan Sri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz.
Anwar also expressed gratitude for Malaysia’s strong current economic performance, noting record-high investments, low unemployment, a strengthening ringgit, and one of the best economic showings in Asia.
However, he cautioned against complacency.
“Malaysia is not a large economy, but we have achieved remarkable progress through peace, political stability, teamwork between leaders and civil servants, and effective policy implementation,” he said.
He warned that such success will not last without continuous effort and unity.
“Imagine if half a million civil servants rose with a renewed spirit to reject corruption, excesses, power abuse, and silly critical politics based on race, divisions, and hatred, and work together to build ourselves, our families and our nation.
“With such spirit, Malaysia would witness an awakening unmatched anywhere,” he added.
