KUALA TERENGGANU, Nov 12 (Bernama) -- The remarkable life story of Malaysia’s track cycling ace Datuk Azizulhasni Awang, fondly known as The Pocket Rocketman, will reach global audiences through a special documentary set to premiere on Netflix.
Terengganu Youth, Sports and Non-Governmental Organisations Committee chairman Hishamuddin Abdul Karim said the documentary, titled The Pulse, is scheduled for release in the third quarter of next year.
He said Azizulhasni’s journey, marked by relentless perseverance and countless challenges, inspired a local production company to capture the story of the world-class cyclist, who rose from Terengganu’s state sports development programme.
“The title The Pulse represents the heartbeat, the never-ending drive of The Pocket Rocketman, who continued to push forward even after suffering a heart condition,” he told reporters after the Terengganu State Legislative Assembly sitting here today.
The documentary will also spotlight several defining moments in Azizulhasni’s career, including a dramatic incident when a wooden splinter pierced his body during a race.
Despite the injury, he returned to the track with unwavering determination, demonstrating remarkable resilience that serves as a powerful inspiration for other athletes.
Hishamuddin said the production is not only a tribute to Azizulhasni’s achievements but also a celebration of Terengganu’s role in nurturing world-class athletes. The state government, he added, will fully support the filming process to ensure it proceeds smoothly and on schedule.
“The documentary will showcase the collective effort behind his success, culminating in his silver medal win in the keirin event at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. His resilience and dedication should serve as an inspiration for young athletes striving to bring honour to the nation,” he said.
