KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 12 (Bernama) -- The Deepavali Light Fiesta celebration in the Lembah Pantai parliamentary constituency was held in high spirits, with strong community participation reflecting harmony and mutual understanding.
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said this year’s celebration was special as, for the first time, more than 1,100 families received vouchers to purchase essential items.
“To me, festive celebrations held peacefully and harmoniously provide an opportunity to strengthen friendship and foster unity among us.
“Such harmony is hard to find elsewhere, and we are truly blessed to live in Malaysia,” he said when speaking at the event held at IWK Eco Park @ Pantai Dalam here tonight.
Fahmi, who is also Lembah Pantai MP, said Malaysia’s multiracial and multicultural society, particularly in Lembah Pantai, served as a source of strength, enabling various festivities — including Hari Raya, Chinese New Year and Christmas — to be celebrated in a spirit of harmony.
In addition to traditional Indian delicacies, the event was enlivened by dance performances from The Dream Catcher, a group comprising youths from the Lembah Pantai area.
