PUTRAJAYA, Nov 13 (Bernama) -- The insights and proposals presented at the Asia Transport Expo (TXA) will be reviewed to assess their potential for integration into national transport policy, particularly in advancing Malaysia’s transport sector.
Transport Ministry (MoT) secretary-general Datuk Seri M. Jana Santhiran said the expo, which concluded today, served as a platform for industry players, researchers, and policymakers to discuss innovative ideas and approaches to strengthen the country’s transport ecosystem.
“Everything discussed in the sessions will be revisited. For instance, some proposals came from university lecturers, and an international transport expert from the UK also participated, offering ideas we need to rethink.
“This is important for the country because we are learning from their experience. We are not taking one step at a time, but aiming for a quantum leap.
“If they took 20 years to achieve something, we hope to implement it in two years, which would greatly benefit the nation,” he told Bernama Radio at the Bernama Mobile Studio in Sepang today.
When asked about support for local companies and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) at TXA, Jana Santhiran said the government’s policy under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Transport Minister Anthony Loke emphasises nurturing local firms to ensure their innovations translate into practical solutions for the nation.
“Many local SMEs participated in the expo, and we took the time to engage with them so their inventions could become products that enhance road safety and the aviation sector,” he said.
“In the aviation sector, some SMEs impressed us with innovations comparable to international standards. The only challenge was exposure, which programmes like this provide, showcasing them not only to local industry players but also international participants,” he added.
Organised by MoT and managed by Alpine Integrated Solution with key industry partners, TXA 2025 ran from Nov 11 to 13, featuring over 100 companies from Malaysia, Indonesia, China, Hong Kong, Germany, Poland, the United States and Singapore.
The expo further reinforced Malaysia’s role as a growing regional mobility hub and highlighted innovations in green mobility, including electrification, smart automation, and low-carbon transport technologies, reflecting the country’s commitment to sustainable and low-emission transport systems.
On developing talent for the transport sector, Jana Santhiran said significant focus is placed on exposing youth to the industry, ensuring the next generation plays a key role in advancing the sector.
Two main agencies, the Technology Depository Agency (TDA) under the Finance Ministry and the Malaysian Rail Development Corporation (MRDC) under MoT, are leveraging major government procurements to build human capital in the transport sector.
“Training is provided, standards are introduced, and various exposures are offered to attract young people to transport. The goal is to enable them to elevate Malaysia to a level beyond the current standards,” he said.
TXA is also set to serve as a strategic platform to attract foreign investment and strengthen international collaboration in green and digital transport, he said.
The event will be held biennially, allowing participating companies to showcase their transport-related solutions and services.
