SHAH ALAM, Nov 29 (Bernama) -- The Selangor government announced that it has conducted a controlled water release from the Tasik Subang Dam to create capacity amid persistent rainfall.
State executive councillor for Infrastructure and Agriculture, Datuk Izham Hashim, said the process was conducted in accordance with the Tasik Subang Dam Emergency Action Plan to ensure the structure's safety and integrity under the Malaysia Dam Safety Management guidelines.
He explained that following continuous heavy rainfall since Nov 24, the dam's water level and capacity rose sharply, from 37.38 metres (79.83 percent) to 38.09 metres (95.12 percent) by 7.00 am on Nov 25.
Subsequently, on Nov 27, the water level continued to rise, approaching the overflow level of 38.57 metres.
Izham explained that the dam’s water level rose further to 38.66 metres by 1.00 am on Nov 28, driven by unusually heavy rainfall of around 110 millimetres from tropical storm Senyar.
“The current situation at Tasik Subang Dam is under control, with releases being closely monitored by LUAS (Selangor Water Management Authority) and Air Selangor,” he said.
He advised the public to refer to the official website, www.iwrims.luas.gov.my, for accurate information and to avoid any confusion regarding the status of Tasik Subang Dam and other dams in Selangor.
