KOTA KINABALU, Nov 29 (Bernama) -- Barisan Nasional (BN) is ready to cooperate with like-minded parties to form a new state government following the 17th Sabah State Election, says BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
He said the coalition always prioritised political stability and the well-being of the people.
The Deputy Prime Minister also called on all Sabahans to maintain peace, unity and respect for the democratic process currently taking place.
“Sabah’s journey forward requires the commitment of all parties, and BN will continue to play a constructive role to ensure the state progresses towards development and prosperity,” he said in a statement tonight.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also UMNO president, expressed his utmost appreciation to all voters who had placed their trust in BN candidates.
He also said BN respected and accepted the outcome of the state polls, which saw a total of 596 candidates contesting as a manifestation of the vibrancy of democracy in the state.
“This result proves that BN still has a strong support base and continues to be one of the key political blocs in Sabah’s political landscape,” he said.
A total of 73 state seats were contested in this election.
