BATU KAWAN, Dec 2 (Bernama) -- More than 40 Penang media practitioners were briefed on the Safe Internet Campaign (KIS) in an effort to strengthen the role of the media to expand coverage on internet safety, particularly involving the use of technology by children and the threat of online fraud.
State Information director Hasmiza Hussin said the programme, jointly organised by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Penang Ministry of Communications Coordinating Committee (JKPKK), was also to improve the people's digital literacy in addressing cyber security issues, including online fraud, which is increasing.
"Today's programme was held specifically to provide a briefing on safe internet use to media friends from all over Penang and the main goal is to ensure that this awareness message can be conveyed to the community widely," she told reporters after the Safe Internet Campaign programme with Penang state media here last night.
Apart from media practitioners, the event was also attended by agencies under the Ministry of Communications including the Community Communications Department (JKOM), Pos Malaysia Berhad, Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM), Malaysian National News Agency (BERNAMA) and the Malaysia Broadcasting Department (RTM).
Hasmiza, who is also the chairman of Penang JKPKK, also expressed her appreciation to all media practitioners who have always provided good cooperation to the state Information Department all these years.
She said that apart from the briefing, the programme which was followed by dinner was also aimed at strengthening relations between government departments and the media, thus providing a space to resolve any issues together.
Also present were Penang MCMC director Mohd Fitri Hashim, Penang Broadcasting director Nor Hisham Abbas, State JKOM Operations director Muhammad Afif Osman, Penang Bernama Bureau chief R.Ratcharathan and Penang Mutiara Club president Mohd Iskandar Othman.
