KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 2 (Bernama) -- Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi has been given the responsibility of carrying out the duties and functions of the Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives effective tomorrow.
Chief Secretary to the Government who is also Cabinet Secretary Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said the decision was announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the Cabinet meeting held last Friday (Nov 28).
"The government would like to express its appreciation and gratitude for all the contributions and services rendered by YB (Yang Berhormat) Datuk Ewon Benedick, Member of Parliament for Penampang throughout his tenure as Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives," he said in a statement today.
Ewon, who is also the president of the United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO), announced his resignation as a Cabinet minister last month.
According to media reports, Ewon was quoted as saying the decision was made to focus on political affairs in Sabah and strengthen UPKO's position in the state's political landscape.
Meanwhile, Nanta, via a post on Facebook, expressed his appreciation to the Prime Minister and the Cabinet for the trust given to him to shoulder the responsibility.
In addition to carrying out his duties as Minister of Works, he said the appointment would be carried out with full commitment to ensure the continuity of operations and the smooth functioning of the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP).
Nanta also expressed his appreciation for all of Ewon's contributions throughout his leadership of KUSKOP.
"I am committed to ensuring that the ministry's work runs smoothly and that the policies currently being implemented can continue for the benefit of entrepreneurs, SMEs (small and medium enterprises), cooperatives and the people as a whole.
"I hope to be able to work closely with all agencies, industry partners and stakeholders to ensure the smooth administration of KUSKOP throughout my term in office," he said.
