SHAH ALAM, Dec 2 (Bernama) -- A total of 19 residents involved in the issue of house demolition and land acquisition in Kampung Jawa, Klang for the West Coast Expressway (WCE) Section 3 project have applied units under the Smart Rental Scheme offered by the Selangor government.
State Housing and Culture Exco Datuk Borhan Aman Shah said, however, the approval for applicants still depends on the procedures set by the state government such as rental conditions and deposit payments.
"Yes, all 19 residents have applied for the Smart Rental Scheme but to join they need to follow the set procedures.
"Although the state government is ready to provide Smart Rental Scheme units as temporary accommodation, residents still need to comply with the basic conditions including deposit payments and rental rates," he said.
He said this when met by reporters after the 2025 Ceria Scheme Project Assistance Grant Ceremony officiated by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari here today.
Borhan said that although the residents requested that the approval process be expedited, his party needed to refine several matters because there was a request for the state government to bear the cost of rental for a year.
He was of the view that the request could be considered if it was only for a period of six months because for a year, the state government would have to bear the cost of around RM200,000 for all families involved.
Borhan said all Smart Rental units offered were within a radius of less than 10 kilometres from the village in question with four preferred locations including units with swimming pool rented at a rate of RM900 a month.
“In this issue, the state government has given a lot of space including postponing several times the evacuation order, but the process has been delayed due to residents’ requests.
“In fact, land acquisition was also done according to procedures and 75 per cent compensation payment has been made,” he said, adding that only legal owners will be considered for entry into Smart Rental Scheme.
Regarding the demolition work that began today, Borhan said the process was going smoothly without any untoward incidents.
“Today (Tuesday) there were no incidents, in fact I myself monitored it since the morning and everything went smoothly,” he said.
Earlier, Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar was reported to have said that the demolition process was controlled and smooth without any untoward incidents.
He said that throughout the operation that began this morning, the local community had cooperated with the police who had deployed sufficient personnel to maintain order.
The WCE Expressway is a major national infrastructure project involving a 233-kilometre network planned to connect Banting, Selangor to Taiping, Perak and also serve as an alternative route to the North-South Expressway (PLUS) to reduce congestion.
