SHAH ALAM, Dec 2 (Bernama) -- Libraries are not merely centres of knowledge, but can be made into second homes for families to build up discipline in reading, creativity and positive values in children, Deputy National Unity Minister K Saraswathy said.
Parents have an important role in nurturing their children and make libraries places for reading, discussion and to instill a love to write, indirectly strengthening familial bonds through mutually beneficial activities, she added.
"Encourage children to visit libraries more often as it will not only expand their minds but also unite families through reading, discussions and appreciation of values.
"The experience of visiting libraries in person gives a deeper impact as children can learn while appreciating the surroundings and seeing others reading,” she said during the launch of Amanda Rescues The Dino Egg, a book written by Aayushi Yogeswaran, nine, in conjunction with the Selangor International Book Festival (SIBF) 2025 that celebrates the young author’s achievement in publishing.
She added that libraries can help build discipline in reading, boost creativity and provide room for children to cultivate an interest in writing and expand their knowledge for the future.
“Every book children read becomes part of their life experience and knowledge that forms their thinking and personality in the future.
“Libraries are not just a place of learning but an area to foster close familial ties and cultivate a consistent reading habit,” Saraswathy said.
Amanda Rescues The Dino Egg is the third book written by Aayushi, who began writing at age seven, and aims to inspire children to write and appreciate values of bravery, responsibility and purity.
The new book also stresses on important values in life by showing children can achieve great results if they are supported, motivated and given proper opportunities.
