KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 2 (Bernama) -- Floods that struck Kelantan and Kedah since last week have fully receded, with all temporary relief centres closed this afternoon, while conditions in five other affected states continue to improve.
In KELANTAN, the first wave of floods has completely subsided, leading to the closure of the two remaining relief centres in Pasir Mas - Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Gual To' Deh and SK Kedai Tanjong - which had been sheltering 67 evacuees from 21 families. Both centres were officially closed at 3.30 pm today.
Kelantan Civil Defence Force (APM) acting director Lt Col (PA) Mohd Farid Ishak said all evacuees have been allowed to return home to begin cleaning their houses.
“In the event of another wave of flooding, residents are reminded to immediately relocate to the nearest relief centre,” he told Bernama when contacted today.
He also advised residents to remain alert to weather and flood updates, and to switch off electrical supply at their homes before leaving the premises to prevent any untoward incidents.
In KEDAH, flood conditions have also fully recovered following the closure of two relief centres in the Kubang Pasu district at 2 pm today.
According to the Kedah JPBN, the centres at SK Padang Pekan and SK Tunjang - opened on Nov 25 and 26 - were closed after all evacuees were allowed to return to their homes.
In SELANGOR, the number of evacuees placed at relief centres continued to decline, dropping to 1,464 people from 413 families this afternoon, compared to 1,835 evacuees from 523 families recorded this morning.
According to the Social Welfare Department’s (JKM) InfoBencana portal, the number of operational relief centres has also decreased to 21, down from 27 this morning, across four districts - Kuala Selangor, Sepang, Kuala Langat and Sabak Bernam.
In TERENGGANU, flood conditions have nearly subsided, with only 31 people from 20 families still housed at relief centres as of 4 pm today, compared to 37 evacuees from 22 families this morning.
According to the Terengganu JPBN Secretariat, all the remaining evacuees are housed at the SK Atas Tol relief centre, which has been operating since last Friday.
Terengganu Education director Kamsah @ Kamal Mohamed said four schools in Kuala Terengganu remain closed due to the floods - SK Atas Tol, SK Kepong, SK Kampung Bukit, Cendering, and SK Paya Resak.
In PERAK, the number of flood evacuees continued to decline this afternoon to 3,402 people from 1,008 families housed in 19 relief centres, compared with 3,610 people from 1,061 families recorded across five districts this morning.
According to the Perak JPBN Secretariat, Hilir Perak remains the worst-affected district with 1,716 evacuees, followed by Bagan Datuk (873), Manjung (498), Perak Tengah (300) and Larut, Matang and Selama (15).
In PAHANG, the number of evacuees also dropped this afternoon to 149 people from 39 families, compared with 198 people from 51 families recorded earlier this morning.
According to JKM’s InfoBencana, Bera remains the district with the highest number of evacuees, with 107 people housed in four relief centres, followed by Maran with 25 people in one centre, Temerloh with 10 people in two centres and Kuantan with seven people in one centre.
The Public Infobanjir portal also reported that Sungai Pahang has exceeded the danger level - at Kuala Sungai Chini in Pekan, and at Lubuk Paku in Maran.
In PERLIS, the flood situation continues to improve, with the number of evacuees dropping sharply from 1,351 people in six relief centres this morning to 696 people as of 4 pm.
According to data from the Perlis JPBN Secretariat, two additional centres have been closed, leaving four relief centres still operating in Padang Besar, Kangar and Arau to accommodate the remaining flood evacuees.
