LENGGONG, Dec 7 (Bernama) -- Kampung Temelong has been selected as the MADANI Adopted Village by the Department of Youth and Sports (JBSN) due to the great potential of Pulau Temelong to be developed as a new rural recreation and tourism destination in Lenggong.
JBSN director-general, Azura Abidin, said the area's natural beauty provides a distinct advantage for developing recreational activities and water-based tourism, making it a potential hub for sports tourism and eco-tourism.
"We at the Ministry of Youth and Sports will continue to plan and carry out various activities here, focusing on recreation, eco-tourism, and eco-education," she said.
"Starting next year, we will implement several programmes, initially prioritising Perak JBS, to help foster better cooperation with the local community and youth groups. They will be encouraged to explore and enjoy the natural surroundings, alongside the activities provided," she told the media after officiating the launch of the MADANI Adopted Village in Kampung Temelong, Pulau Temelong, together with Deputy Home Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah.
Earlier in her speech, Azura said Kampung Temelong was chosen as a MADANI Adopted Village due to its uniqueness and the great potential of Pulau Temelong, particularly in developing it as a new recreational and tourism destination in Lenggong.
She added that infrastructure upgrades, including improvements to the jetty, roads, restroom facilities, campsites, halls, and an open surau, have been carried out to enhance the safety and comfort of visitors to Pulau Temelong.
"Over 10 key works have been completed with a project value of nearly RM1 million. This investment is expected to significantly boost community development and the tourism sector in Kampung Temelong," she said.
Azura further noted that Pulau Temelong offers a wide range of activities, not only providing a campsite but also water sports such as rafting, kayaking, and fishing, which have become increasingly popular among the youth and recreation enthusiasts.
"I have been informed that recreational activity bookings for Pulau Temelong are fully booked from January to February 2026, which reflects the positive impact of the MADANI Adopted Village initiative and its significant socio-economic benefits for the local community," she said.
Meanwhile, Shamsul Anuar, who is also the MP for Lenggong, said the MADANI Adopted Village project would bring benefits to the development of the local community, and the role of JBS would open opportunities to implement programmes involving the younger generation in the area.
"This selection (of Kampung Temelong) is a timely and appropriate decision, aligning with Lenggong’s status as a tourism area, which is also receiving attention from both the state and federal governments. I hope future programmes will focus on educating the younger generation to appreciate and preserve the natural environment for their future," he said.
