KOTA KINABALU, Dec 7 (Bernama) -- Tourism jetties in Kota Kinabalu require maintenance to ensure the comfort and safety of tourists visiting Sabah, state Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Jafry Ariffin said today.
During a visit to several major tourism jetties in the state capital today, he noted that several facilities and infrastructure at the jetties required immediate maintenance.
“This situation cannot be left alone as it involves the safety and well-being of officers and staff tasked with protecting tourism conservation sites.
“This is a safety issue and I want immediate action. The staff on duty at the islands require safe and conducive accommodation,” he said in a statement here today.
He had visited Jesselton Point, The Sabah Parks Jetty, and the Suria Capital-owned South Jetty, which is currently under construction at an estimated cost of RM20 million earlier today.
Jafry also inspected the conditions in Pulau Sulug, including Sabah Parks staff quarters that were found to be dilapidated and damaged and in need of immediate repairs.
“This matter will be looked into immediately with the ministry for follow up action and long term solutions. The ministry will continue to monitor and improve tourism facilities in the state to ensure Sabah remains a major tourist destination of the country,” he added.
