FGV RESTARTS OPERATIONS AFTER TERENGGANU EXTENDS REMEDIATION DEADLINE

09/12/2025 04:48 PM

KUALA TERENGGANU, Dec 9 (Bernama) -- FGV Holdings has resumed plantation operations following the Terengganu government's decision to extend the remediation deadline to Jan 7 next year.

In a joint statement, the Federal Land Development Authority (FELDA) and FGV announced they can now resume operations as usual and refocus on enhancing yields, strengthening settler household incomes, and supporting community development within the schemes.

The statement noted that this development not only restores confidence among settlers and workers but also ensures the continued stability of the local economy.

“This development comes as a major relief to the settlers, who for several weeks have faced uncertainty regarding their income, their future and livelihood.

“From the outset, our priority has been to safeguard the welfare, economic security, and emotional well-being of the settlers, particularly the native sons and daughters of Terengganu,” the statement read.

FELDA and FGV also expressed their appreciation to the Terengganu government for its commitment and willingness to continue discussions professionally.

"This cooperation is deeply meaningful because, ultimately, the well-being of the settlers, who have been the foundation and lifeblood of FELDA since its establishment, is a shared priority that must be continually upheld," read the statement.

In a statement yesterday, State Secretary Datuk Zulkifli Ali said the Terengganu government has extended the remediation deadline under the National Land Code (NLC) Section 425 notice to Jan 7, 2026, suspending the earlier notice issued to the FGV board.

The decision follows constructive progress in earlier negotiations between the state government, FELDA and FGV over the land dispute.

The Terengganu government recently issued notices prohibiting trespass on land operated by FELDA across 10 plantations, covering approximately 15,000 hectares, following allegations that the land has been developed for over 40 years without premium payments, tax, or profit sharing.

The notices were served simultaneously to the management of plantations in Setiu, Besut, Kemaman, Marang, Dungun and Hulu Terengganu.
