KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 9 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia ended the morning session lower on Tuesday, mirroring subdued regional sentiment and the weak close on Wall Street.
At 12.30 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) eased 2.76 points, or 0.17 per cent, to 1,610.02, compared with Monday’s close of 1,612.78.
The benchmark opened 6.36 points higher at 1,619.14 and moved between 1,606.57 and 1,620.73 through the morning.
Across the broader market, decliners led gainers 512 to 321, with 533 counters unchanged, 1,381 untraded and 11 suspended.
Turnover stood at 1.91 billion shares worth RM1.11 billion.
Regionally, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index slipped 0.84 per cent to 25,549.94, South Korea’s Kospi eased 0.36 per cent to 4,139.95, Indonesia’s IDX Composite fell 0.44 per cent to 8,672.75, and China’s SSE Composite dipped 0.13 per cent to 3,918.83.
Malacca Securities Sdn Bhd said in a note that with Wall Street’s negative close overnight, a clearer direction for the local market is likely to emerge only after the United States Federal Reserve announces its interest rate decision on Thursday.
The US Federal Open Market Committee is holding its policy meeting today and tomorrow.
Among heavyweight stocks, Maybank added two sen to RM10.14, CIMB Group fell seven sen to RM7.83 and Public Bank eased one sen to RM4.36. IHH Healthcare gained four sen to RM8.55, while Tenaga Nasional was unchanged at RM12.70.
On the active list, Velesto Energy added half-a-point to 25.5 sen, Main Market debutant Orkim inched up half-a-sen to 92.5 sen, Tanco slipped four sen to RM1.14, Ingenieur Gudang edged up half-a-sen to three sen, and Zetrix AI eased half-a-sen to 79.5 sen.
Top gainers included Allianz Malaysia, up 30 sen to RM19.90; United Plantations, up 24 sen to RM28.96; Fraser & Neave, up 24 sen to RM35.00; FCW Holdings, up 20 sen to RM2.00; and Petronas Gas, up 18 sen to RM17.20.
Among top decliners, Malaysian Pacific Industries shed 24 sen to RM31.86, Dutch Lady Milk Industries slipped 20 sen to RM31.30, Chin Teck Plantations fell 20 sen to RM10.80, Gamuda slid 12 sen to RM5.08 and Petronas Dagangan eased 12 sen to RM19.16.
On the index board, the FBM Emas Index eased 22.34 points to 11,903.13, the FBM Emas Shariah Index fell 28.00 points to 11,756.87, the FBMT 100 Index dropped 20.48 points to 11,690.71, the FBM ACE Index slipped 22.27 points to 4,761.36, and the FBM 70 Index weakened 31.28 points to 16,620.75.
By sector, the Financial Services Index fell 15.83 points to 18,917.43, the Energy Index eased 0.70 points to 752.53, and the Industrial Products and Services Index slipped 0.41 of-a-point to 165.40, while the Plantation Index gained 39.20 points to 8,068.41.
