KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 12 (Bernama) -- Malaysia’s natural rubber (NR) production decreased by 14.8 per cent to 26,647 tonnes in September 2025 from 31,285 tonnes in August 2025, said the Statistics Department of Malaysia (DOSM).

In a statement today, chief statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said that year-on-year comparison showed that NR production decreased by 16.3 per cent compared to 31,847 tonnes in September 2024.

“Production of NR in September 2025 for Malaysia was mainly contributed by the smallholders sector (85.2 per cent) as compared to the estates sector (14.8 per cent),” he said.

Mohd Uzir stated that the third quarter of 2025’s (3Q 2025) performance showed a 36.9 per cent increase in natural rubber production to 93,815 tonnes, compared to 68,513 tonnes in 2Q 2025.

“The annual performance of Malaysia’s NR production in 3Q 2025 recorded a decrease of 11.3 per cent as compared to 3Q 2024 (105,715 tonnes),” he said.

Mohd Uzir said that the total NR stocks in September 2025 increased by 0.7 per cent to 159,629 tonnes compared to 158,157 tonnes in August 2025.

“Rubber processors factory contributed 81.9 per cent of the stocks, followed by rubber consumers factory (18.0 per cent) and rubber estates (0.1 per cent),” he said.

The chief statistician said that Malaysia’s NR exports totalled 33,548 tonnes in September 2025, representing a 15.1 per cent decrease compared to 39,517 tonnes in  August 2025.

China remained the main destination for NR exports, which accounted for 44.2 per cent of total exports in September 2025, followed by the United Arab Emirates (13.8 per cent), Germany (12.8 per cent), the United States of America (5.5 per cent) and Portugal (4.2 per cent).

Mohd Uzir said the improved export performance was contributed by NR-based products such as gloves, tyres, tubes and rubber thread. Gloves were the main exports of rubber-based products with a value of RM1.1 billion in September 2025, a decrease of 8.2 per cent as compared to August 2025 (RM1.2 billion).

He said that analysis of the average monthly price showed that concentrated latex recorded an increase of 1.5 per cent in September 2025 to 577.89 sen per kg compared to 569.48 sen per kg in August 2025.

“Scrap increased by 1.7 per cent (September 2025: 604.53 sen per kg; August 2025: 594.18 sen per kg).

“The trend of prices for all Standard Malaysian Rubber (SMR) increased 1.4 per cent and 2.1 per cent,” he said.

Mohd Uzir added that the World Bank Commodity Price Data reported the prices for Technically Specified Rubber (TSR) 20 increased 1.7 per cent from US$1.71 per kg to US$1.74 per kg, but SGP/MYS (Singapore/Malaysia) decreased 1.9 per cent from US$2.15 per kg to US$2.11 per kg.
