KOTA KINABALU, Nov 12 (Bernama) -- Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) today announced that it will contest four additional seats in the upcoming 17th Sabah state election, bringing the total number of seats it will contest to 45.
Sabah BN chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin described the move as part of efforts to strengthen the coalition’s leadership lineup and readiness for the polls.
He said the decision was made after reviewing current developments and holding detailed consultations to ensure broader and more strategic representation across constituencies.
“The additional seats were finalised in line with BN’s aspiration to ensure balanced and inclusive representation that reflects the needs of the people and the political dynamics of the state,” he said in a statement today.
The four new candidates announced are Willey Lampaki for the N06 Bandau seat, Rahmah Jan Sulaiman (N43 Kemabong), Datuk Chin Kim Hiung (N54 Karamunting), and Chaya Sulaiman (N70 Kukusan).
Bung Moktar said the move underscores Sabah BN’s continued commitment to ensuring that all communities in the contested areas receive effective representation and quality service from capable leaders entrusted with the people’s mandate.
“Party machineries at all levels are urged to intensify preparations and execute well-coordinated, inclusive and targeted campaign efforts to secure victory and return the people’s mandate to BN,” he said.
On Sunday, Sabah BN announced its initial list of 41 state seats it will contest in the election, comprising both new and incumbent faces. With today’s additions, the coalition will now contest a total of 45 seats.
Bung Moktar said BN’s lineup this time offers a fresh and comprehensive mix of leadership aimed not only at strengthening political stability but also at driving Sabah towards more inclusive development.
“I hope this team will fulfil its responsibilities with dedication and demonstrate its capability to earn the confidence of voters, ultimately ensuring victory for Barisan Nasional,” he said.
The Election Commission has set Nov 16 for nomination, with early voting on Nov 25 and polling on Nov 29.
