TUNKU MAHKOTA ISMAIL CALLS FOR REGULAR INFRASTRUCTURE MAINTENANCE

12/11/2025 09:25 PM

JOHOR BAHRU, Nov 12 (Bernama) -- The Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail, today instructed the Johor Bahru City Council (MBJB) and Pasir Gudang City Council (MBPG) to ensure that road maintenance, street lighting, and public facilities are properly managed.

His Royal Highness also stressed that the public should be informed of the estimated timeline for resolving these issues.

“They also need to inform the public about the timeline for resolving these issues, given the numerous complaints regarding non-functioning street lights and other maintenance problems,” he said via a Facebook post.

Earlier, Tunku Ismail granted an audience to the Menteri Besar of Johor, Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi; State Secretary Datuk Asman Shah Abd Rahman; MBJB Mayor Datuk Mohd Haffiz Ahmad; and MBPG Mayor Datin Paduka Hazlina Jalil.

Meanwhile, Onn Hafiz, in a Facebook post today, said he conducted a site visit to inspect affected roads, including Pasir Gudang Highway (FT17) and the Rinting-Seri Alam Intersection, following complaints received.

He said the inspection revealed that several main locations still had non-functioning street lights, with only some operational, potentially endangering users, especially in industrial areas and key junctions at night.

Therefore, he said MBJB and MBPG, along with the relevant concessionaires, had been instructed to submit comprehensive reports and take immediate action to replace or repair the faulty lights.

“Emphasis has also been placed on improving lighting in dark and high-risk areas,” he added.

He further stressed that regular maintenance must be carried out in a more systematic and scheduled manner to monitor and prevent recurring street light issues.

Onn Hafiz said the state government would continue to monitor repair works and ensure that all lighting infrastructure is maintained at optimal levels for the safety and well-being of the public.
