PUTRAJAYA, Nov 12 (Bernama) -- The 10 candidates fielded by PKR for the 17th Sabah State Election (PRN) were selected primarily based on their winnability, said PKR Co-Election Director Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
He said all candidates underwent thorough scrutiny by the party’s Election Committee, which assessed multiple factors before finalising the list.
Addressing the inclusion of ‘parachute candidates’, those with records of joining multiple parties or who recently entered PKR, he said electoral strength, rather than tenure or background, was the main criterion.
He added that the party was also monitoring public response to the announcements.
“PKR is inclusive, not exclusive. Some new entrants may contest, while even some who founded the party long ago have not been selected as candidates. Every candidate is judged on merit and winnability,” he told reporters after the 2025 Artificial Intelligence (AI) Security Transformation Symposium here today.
“I believe the committee has reviewed all aspects, including candidates with histories in other parties. That is the nature of our politics,” he said.
