KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 29 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has advised the public to remain vigilant, following reports of rising river water levels across multiple states.
In a Facebook post, he said that based on the latest data from the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS), the affected rivers are in Perlis, Kedah, Perak, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Johor, Terengganu and Kelantan.
“I wish to remind everyone to stay alert. Several rivers in these states are now at Caution, Warning, and Danger levels according to the latest JPS report,” he said.
He also informed the public that they can check the current status via the Public Flood Info website at https://publicinfobanjir.water.gov.my.
“Avoid high-risk areas, especially during continuous rain. Stay updated on weather developments, steer clear of strong currents, and follow instructions from authorities. May we all be protected and granted ease in our affairs,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) reported that a tropical depression is currently located in the South China Sea and is expected to have no significant impact on Malaysia.
According to the agency’s statement, the depression was detected at 8.00 this morning and is moving east-northeast at a speed of 15 kilometres per hour.
The maximum recorded wind speed is 56 kilometres per hour, and it is located approximately 213 kilometres northeast of Dungun, Terengganu.
