DAP DRAWS BLANK IN SABAH POLLS; LOKE TAKES RESPONSIBILITY

30/11/2025 12:56 AM

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 29 (Bernama) -- DAP failed to win any of the eight seats it contested in the 17th Sabah State Election today.

DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke said the party accepts and respects the decision made by voters, and also congratulated the parties and candidates who emerged victorious.

“The party leadership will learn from this result, review our weaknesses and work to regain public support in the next election,” he said in a statement tonight.

The eight seats contested by Sabah DAP were Luyang, Kapayan, Likas, Tanjong Papat, Elopura, Sri Tanjong, as well as the new seats of Tanjung Aru and Kemabong.

Loke said Sabah DAP was still represented by two members of parliament, who will continue strengthening their work in Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan.

“As secretary-general, I take full responsibility for the shortcomings that led to DAP not winning any seats in this 17th Sabah State Election,” he said.

Meanwhile, Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said the party accepts and respects the decision of voters in the Sulabayan seat, where its sole candidate was defeated.

He said the result reflects the workings of democracy, with voters ultimately determining the state’s direction, and added that Amanah hopes Sabah will continue to progress under the leadership that receives the mandate.

“Although the result this time was not in our favour, our spirit remains intact. Every challenge is an opportunity for reflection, improvement and strengthening our resolve to plan more effectively,” he said in a Facebook post tonight.

He also conveyed his appreciation to all Pakatan Harapan and Unity Government campaign workers for their efforts during the polls.
