CHUKAI, Nov 29 (Bernama) -- Flood-hit residents of the Teluk Kalong Affordable Housing scheme near here have begun returning to their homes to clean up and restore them after the area was inundated since last Thursday.
A Bernama check today found that residents who had been evacuated to the Darul Iman Training Centre temporary relief centre took advantage of the sunny weather to clean their homes and dry water-soaked items such as clothing.
A resident, Muspeie Muda, 43, said he and his wife, Normasliana Mahmud, 44, returned home to immediately clean their mud-filled house.
“I had to clean the mud-caked house, with the muddy outflow likely washed down from a nearby development project, before I could bring my family back inside,” he told Bernama today.
Another resident, Muhammad Zulkarnain Azhar, 35, said that besides cleaning the floor, he also washed furniture and household appliances that were still usable.
However, he said a refrigerator that was not perched in a safe place was damaged.
“In the first wave of flooding this year, my house was flooded to a depth of 0.5 metres. The water rose quite quickly and there were items that I didn’t have time to save,” he said.
