KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 30 (Bernama) -- Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) president Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan retained the Tambunan state seat to become the oldest person to win in the 17th Sabah State Election.
Jeffrey, 78, who has held the seat since 2018, retained the mandate after winning the seven-cornered fight with a majority of 7,311 votes.
According to the Election Commission (EC), Jeffrey obtained 12,595 votes, defeating seven other candidates, including those from Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), Parti Warisan and Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM).
Tambunan has 29,187 registered voters and is one of three state seats in the Keningau parliamentary constituency.
Meanwhile, independent candidate Jordan Jude Ellron emerged as the youngest winner, taking the Tulid seat.
The 28-year-old candidate won the Tulid seat with 3,545 votes, defeating 13 other challengers by a majority of 1,195 votes.
His two nearest challengers - Datuk Baritus Gungkit of Sabah STAR and Rufinah Pengeran of Pakatan Harapan (PH) - could each garner 2,350 votes and 1,628 votes respectively, while 11 others lost their deposits.
The oldest candidate in the state election this time was 86-year-old Uling @ Thomas Anggan from Parti Kebangsaan Sabah (PKS), who contested the Bingkor seat. The youngest was 24-year-old Mohd Syafiq Iqhmal Saharudin, also from PKS, who stood in Silam.
The 17th state polls saw 596 candidates vying for 73 state seats.
