MADANI GOVT AIMS TO END HARDCORE POVERTY IN FIRST QUARTER OF 2026 - PM

PUTRAJAYA, Dec 7 (Bernama) -- Malaysia has been recognised as one of the countries close to eliminating hardcore poverty through the implementation of people-focused policies and programmes under the MADANI administration, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said.

The Prime Minister said Malaysia’s hardcore poverty rate now stands at 0.09 per cent, reflecting the effectiveness of inclusive and comprehensive measures to ensure that no one is left behind in national progress.

“Malaysia is recognised globally for being close to ending hardcore poverty, and we are thankful the figure has declined to 0.09 per cent,” he said at the closing of the Rancakkan MADANI Bersama Malaysiaku programme here today.

Anwar added that he was optimistic the remaining cases could be addressed in the first quarter of 2026, enabling Malaysia to completely eradicate hardcore poverty.

He described the achievement as historic, made possible through cooperation among ministries, agencies and state governments via initiatives such as the MADANI Adopted Village, MADANI Adopted School and the Sejahtera Komuniti MADANI (SejaTi MADANI)  programmes, which are closely monitored.

“All this is to ensure no group is marginalised or left behind,” he said.

According to Anwar, the milestone reflected the success of the MADANI Economy policy, which seeks to balance economic growth with people’s well-being.

The three-day Rancakkan MADANI programme, which began on Friday, offers more than 300 touchpoint services, a career carnival, interactive exhibitions, family entertainment and special promotions for visitors.

It is a continuation of the One Year with the MADANI Government and the Two Years of MADANI Government programmes, which serve as the administration’s annual platform for reporting its achievements directly to the people.
