BDB MASTERS SOLIDIFIES POSITION AS NORTHERN REGION’S PREMIER AMATEUR GOLF EVENT

ALOR SETAR, Dec 7 (Bernama) -- The BDB Masters has strengthened its status as the premier amateur golf championship in the Northern Region, as evident from the participation of more than 150 players in its 10th edition, which ended at the Darulaman Golf and Country Club (DGCC) in Jitra today.

Bina Darulaman Berhad (BDB) Group chief executive officer Che Abdul Khalid Md Din said the event has a long history as a continuation of the Darulaman Masters, first held more than 20 years ago.

“After a decade of organisation, the BDB Masters has grown into a brand that plays an important role in enhancing BDB Group’s corporate image. This championship not only strengthens the sporting identity under the BDB brand, but also stands as a symbol of excellence, prestige and community unity through golf.

“Ten years ago, participation was only around 80 players, mostly from Kedah and neighbouring states. Alhamdulillah, the number has now risen to over 150 participants, with more than 80 per cent coming from outside Kedah,” he said in a statement today.

Che Abdul Khalid said this growth demonstrates that the BDB Masters brand now stands in a class of its own.

“The BDB Group is committed to continuing to offer the best golf championship in the Northern Region, not only through attractive prizes but also through game challenges that can draw participants from within and outside the country in the future.

“As in previous years, the BDB Masters was contested in five categories: Gross Open, Nett Open, Nett Intermediate, Senior Gross and Senior Nett,” he said.

He added that apart from the overall prizes, a major attraction was the Hole-in-One reward — two cars, a Proton X70 and a Perodua Myvi — which players had the chance to win on the second and third days of the tournament.

Kall Danish, 23, was crowned overall champion after recording 220 strokes over the three days of competition, and he walked away with a cash prize and the championship trophy.

The tournament was attended by BDB chairman Che Had Dhali and BDB Darulaman Golf Resort Berhad chairman Datuk Abdul Rahman Abdullah.
