KANGAR, Dec 9 (Bernama) -- An incentive of RM10,000 will be given to winners of gold medals in individual events if the 20-gold target set by the Perlis government is achieved at the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA).
Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramlli said this is to encourage the athletes and officials to embrace the set target.
"Sports programmes for 2026 will be geared towards achieving the 20-gold target at the 22nd Selangor SUKMA 2026. This target must be achieved to ensure the Perlis State Sports Development Plan 2022-2026, which aims to secure 20 gold medals from eight sports, is realised.
"Although the 20-gold target is challenging, the state government is confident it can be achieved with the support of an integrated development programme outlined under Project 8:20,” he said.
He said this when tabling the state's Budget 2026, themed ‘Perlisku Bestari Rakyat Sejahtera’ at the State Legislative Assembly sitting at the Seri Putra Complex here today.
Meanwhile, Mohd Shukri said that in a bid to strengthen the state's image as an international sports destination, the Perlis State Woodball Association will act as co-sponsors of the 10th Woodball World Cup next year.
"The championship will involve 20 countries and will be held from July 25-31, 2026. Through this world-class championship, Perlis can strengthen its position as the country's woodball development centre, thereby popularising Perlis on the international scene,” he said.
