JAKARTA, Nov 23 (Bernama) -- Indonesia has reiterated its support for all initiatives aimed at ensuring accountability for crimes committed by Israel in Palestine, including those pursued through the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that ICC’s issuance of arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant represents a significant step toward justice for crimes against humanity and war crimes in Palestine.
“In this regard, Indonesia emphasises that these arrest warrants must be carried out in full accordance with international law,” the ministry stated on its X account on Saturday.
The ministry also expressed that Indonesia believes such actions are crucial for ending Israel’s unlawful occupation of Palestinian territories and advancing the establishment of an independent State of Palestine, in line with the principles of the Two-State Solution.
The ICC issued arrest warrants on Thursday for Netanyahu and Gallant, accusing them of war crimes and crimes against humanity committed from at least Oct 8, 2023, to at least May 20, 2024.
In other developments, Indonesia has reaffirmed its support for the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Lebanon (UNIFIL), Foreign Affairs Ministry’s spokesperson Rolliansyah Soemirat said.
He stated, in a separate statement, that Indonesia remains committed to UNIFIL and confirmed that it is the largest troop contributor to UNIFIL, with 1,230 personnel.
“United Nations peacekeepers in Lebanon remain in all positions,” he added, also noting that Indonesian peacekeepers, who are currently in good condition, continue to serve under the UNIFIL Force Commander.
