14/11/2025 11:39 AM

JAKARTA, Nov 15 (Bernama) -- Two people were killed and 21 others remain missing after a landslide hit Majenang district in Cilacap regency, Central Java, on Thursday evening, said Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Authority (BNPB).

Heavy rains triggered the landslide at about 8 pm local time, which struck homes in the villages of Cibeunying, Cibaduyut, and Tarakan, according to BNPB spokesperson Abdul Muhari.

“As of 3 am on Friday, rescue teams had evacuated 23 people, with three sustaining minor injuries. Material losses include 12 houses damaged and 16 at risk,” he said in a statement.

Noting that the unstable terrain remains a challenge, he said the Cilacap Regency Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and joint search and rescue teams were pressing on with heavy machinery deployed to speed up evacuation efforts.

The agency has warned residents and rescue personnel to remain vigilant against secondary landslides, as light to moderate rainfall is forecast across Majenang district from Friday through Sunday.
