KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 6 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) detained five individuals, including three civil servants suspected of being involved in corrupt activities amounting to RM1 million to obtain logging areas in the East Coast and a Southern state in the country.
According to MACC sources, the suspects, aged between 30 and 50, were arrested between 12noon and 5pm on Tuesday at several locations in states on the east coast and south of the country through a special operation by MACC.
"Preliminary investigations found that the act was committed in 2016 until now and the bribery transactions by all the suspects is believed to be RM1 million for logging works. In addition, MACC also confiscated two luxury vehicles and tens of thousands of ringgit in cash," said the source when contacted today.
The source said the seven-day remand order for the five suspects, comprising four men and a woman, was issued by the Johor Bahru Magistrate's Court yesterday morning.
Meanwhile, MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki, when contacted, confirmed the arrests and said the case was being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
Azam said the two individuals who were also arrested earlier in connection with the case had been released on MACC bail.
