RIYADH, Feb 12 (Bernama-SPA) -- Saudi Arabia has made a major advancement in digital governance, rising 25 places in the UN E-Government Development Index 2024.

It now ranks first regionally, second among G20 nations, and sixth globally, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

The achievement, announced at the LEAP25 conference, highlights the Kingdom’s rapid digital transformation.

The UN report commended Saudi Arabia’s adoption of technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain.

Key initiatives include the world’s first zero-carbon 5G network in the Red Sea, the "Sehhaty" app serving over 30 million users, a generative AI accelerator, cloud computing partnerships and smart city projects.

Riyadh also secured third place globally and first regionally in the index. The report recognised the city’s smart initiatives, such as AI-powered surveillance and urban enhancement projects.

The Digital Government Authority has been instrumental in this progress, setting national performance indicators and implementing digital transformation initiatives. These efforts ensure efficient, world-class digital services.

This success reinforces Saudi Arabia’s commitment to digital development, improving government efficiency, and enhancing citizen services. It aligns with Saudi Vision 2030, positioning the Kingdom as a global digital leader.
