ARAU, Feb 14 (Bernama) -- Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) is committed to strengthening the education system with a more dynamic and innovative approach to meet the needs of Generation Z and Alpha, who are becoming increasingly dominant in the learning ecosystem, said its Vice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Zaliman Sauli.
He said this move is crucial to ensure that the academic staff, mainly those from the X and Y generations, can adapt to new teaching methods that are more relevant to today's students.
"Generation Z grew up with technology and still values the balance between the digital world and reality. Meanwhile, Generation Alpha are digital natives who are more comfortable interacting virtually.
"Therefore, the challenge is for us to integrate the uniqueness of each generation to create understanding and effectiveness in learning," he said when delivering the Vice-Chancellor's 2025 Message at UniMAP here today.
Zaliman said that this change aligns with the New Year's Message of the Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, who emphasised the importance of education as the foundation for shaping a competitive generation.
Meanwhile, he said the university supports the Higher Education Ministry's policy through the 2025 UniMAP Strategic Plan, which is based on five thrusts, including strengthening academics, empowering research, and ensuring student welfare.
"This strategic plan is now in Phase III with 77 key performance indicators (KPI) and an overall achievement of 86.5 per cent in 2024.
"UniMAP is drafting a new 2026-2030 plan for the next phase, which is more robust and future-proof to continue the university's excellence," he added.
Zaliman also launched URDigital, UniMAP's official student app, to enhance the academic experience through quick access to university services such as student accounts, class schedules, and a virtual matriculation card.
The event also saw the introduction of the Staff Code of Ethics Handbook and the 2025 corporate video, highlighting the university's role in ensuring the effectiveness of a more sustainable and impactful higher education.
