TFC AND KUCHING CITY SHARE THE POINTS IN 2-2 DRAW AT SSMZA

22/02/2025 12:23 AM

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 21 (Bernama) -- Terengganu FC (TFC) had to settle for a point after being tied 2-2 by Kuching City FC in a Super League 2024/2025 action at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium (SSMZA) tonight.

The hosts started the match aggressively when Manuel Ott blasted the opening goal as early as the ninth minute through a volley from outside the box to surprise the visitors.

Shocked by the goal, Aidil Shahrin Sahak's squad immediately set up several counter attacks and almost equalized in the 16th minute but James Okwuosa's shot deflected to the right side of the goal.

TFC, who were leading 1-0, continued to double their efforts in search of another goal but Muhammad Syahmi Zamri's weak shot in the 21st minute was easily saved by goalkeeper, Wan Muhammad Azraie Wan Teh.

Muhammad Syahmi once again had the opportunity to make a name for himself but missed two golden opportunities in the 44th and 45th minutes.

However, in the 61st minute, Ismaheel Akinade brought cheers to the home crowd with the second goal to extend TFC's advantage to 2-0.

But the joy of the home supporters did not last long as three minutes later Jordan Mintah closed the gap with Kuching City FC's first goal in the 64th minute before Petrus Shitembi equalised two minutes later (66') to dash the home team’s dreams of collecting all three points.

Meanwhile, Sabah FC also suffered a similar fate when they failed to take advantage of playing at home after being held 1-1 by Kuala Lumpur City FC at the Likas Stadium in Kota Kinabalu.

Martin Santo’s team did not wait long to be in front when S Kumaahran headed in the ball swiftly from inside the penalty box to beat goalkeeper, Muhammad Hafizul Hakim Khairul Nizam Jothy as early as the seventh minute.

In the 36th minute, Miroslav Kuljanac's side had a chance to equalise when awarded a penalty kick but after a Video Assist Referee (VAR) review, the decision was overturned as the ball had initially hit one of the KL City FC players first.

The start of the second half saw both teams exchange some dangerous attacks but the goal only came in the 81st minute when KL City FC managed to equalize through Muhammad Haqimi Azim Rosli's powerful shot from inside the penalty box.
