NILAI, Feb 23 (Bernama) -- The national track cycling squad achieved their medal target for the 2025 Asian Track Cycling (ATC) Championship at the National Velodrome after winning three more medals today to bring their current haul to five medals.
National track cycling head coach Mohd Harnizam Basri set a target of three medals for the championship.
“Alhamdulillah, we managed to exceed the set target and our riders at the championship managed to perform as we wanted. I believe there might be more medals in the keirin and men’s and women’s individual 1-kilometre (km) time trial,” he said when met today.
Today Nur Aisyah Mohamad Zubir won a silver after finishing behind Hong Kong cyclist Lee Sze Wing in the women’s scratch race while Nurul Izzah Izzati Mohd Asri who defended her bronze in the women’s individual sprint.
The last medal came from Muhammad Shah Firdaus Sahrom beat his brother Muhammad Ridhwan Sahrom for the bronze in the 3rd/4th place decider of the men’s individual sprint.
Muhammad Shah Firdaus said he did not expect to be able to win a medal as he only had to achieve a quarterfinal target after suffering a knee injury.
“I am thankful to the team who handled me really well (so that) I could win this bronze today,” he shared after the race.
