PUTRAJAYA, Feb 24 (Bernama) -- The construction of the Kota Bharu-Kuala Krai Expressway (KBKK) in Kelantan is now 80 per cent completed and is set to be fully ready by 2027, according to Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.
He said the Works Ministry (KKR) was optimistic that the KBKK could be completed within the stipulated period as there were only 20 per cent remaining to be completed by the recently appointed contractor.
“For the remaining 20 per cent of the project, a new contractor was recently appointed and work will begin soon. We understand that it will take time (due to several procedures).
“…the entire KBKK project is expected to be completed by 2027, taking into account the multiple factors in Kelantan, including the fact that the state is the most prone to monsoon effects.”
The minister said this to reporters when asked about the picture of the allegedly abandoned 66.9-km KBKK project worth RM2.3 billion which went viral on social media.
Meanwhile, Nanta urged all local authorities and state governments to immediately repair damaged roads in their areas before the matter went viral and affected public safety.
For federal roads, he said the Public Works Department (JKR) had been compelled to make sure that all work to repair damaged roads be carried out within 24 hours after a complaint was received, including through the MyJalan app which was launched on Aug 2, 2023.
“When we receive a complaint of damaged road, we need to act promptly. No need to wait,” he said.
