NILAI, Feb 24 (Bernama) -- National women's track cyclist Nur Aisyah Mohamad Zubir's maiden attempt to participate in the elite Point Race event paid off as she won a silver medal in the 2025 Asian Track Cycling Championships (ACT) at the National Velodrome here today.
In the 100-lap race, Nur Aisyah showed an energetic ride to collect 20 points in second place, one point ahead of Uzbekistan's Nafosat Kozieva (19 points) in third place, while Japan's Maho Kakita (44 points) won the event.
It is also the second silver medal for the Terengganu-born rider in the ATC 2025, after taking second place in the scratch race yesterday.
"Alhamdulillah, I am grateful to have won a silver medal in this event which is also my first attempt. I myself didn't expect to be on the podium because this race is very challenging with 100 laps and every 10 laps there is an acceleration.
"It really tested my physical and mental endurance and I tried to find the best position with 40 laps left after seeing the rider in third position only one point apart from me," she said when met by reporters after the end of the race here.
Nur Aisyah will now shift her focus to another event she participated in, namely women's madison when she competes with Nyo Ci Hui tomorrow.
In the para track cycling event, Nur Suraiya Muhammad Zamri, Farina Shawati Mohd Adnan (helmsman) won gold in the women's tandem sprint event (B) ahead of another national team of Nur Azlia Syafinaz Mohd Zais, Nur Fitrah Shaari (helmsman) who won silver.
