HANOI, Feb 25 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will undertake a two-day working visit to Vietnam beginning today where he is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the ASEAN Future Forum (AFF) 2025, Wisma Putra said in a statement today.
The forum to be held tomorrow serves as an inclusive platform for discussions and dialogue among ASEAN leaders, policymakers, experts, think tanks, business leaders, and stakeholders regarding ASEAN’s future direction.
“In his keynote address, the Prime Minister will emphasise Malaysia’s commitment to MADANI values and Malaysia’s aspirations as the ASEAN Chair for 2025. He will also highlight Malaysia’s key priorities and outcomes for the year, including efforts at promoting inclusive and sustainable economic development, digital transformation, climate change and renewable energy,” it said.
According to Wisma Putra, Anwar will also call on the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam and the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Luong Cuong as well as meet the country’s Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
It said the meetings will provide an opportunity for both countries to chart a clear path for strengthening bilateral cooperation under the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
“The discussions will focus on strategic areas, including trade and investment, defence and security, maritime economy, science and technology, energy, and tourism, as well as joint efforts to address illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing. The leaders are also expected to exchange views on regional issues,” it said.
This visit according to the statement, reflects Malaysia’s commitment to strengthening relations with ASEAN Member States, in line with Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship theme of “Inclusivity and Sustainability”.
The visit also aims to further enhance bilateral relations between Malaysia and Vietnam while expanding cooperation at both regional and international levels, said Wisma Putra.
