KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 26 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Embassy in the United States (US) hosted a colloquium on Tuesday to introduce Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship priorities for 2025, underscoring its leadership at a crucial time for the region.
Organised in collaboration with the ASEAN and Indo-Pacific Students Initiatives (AIPSI), American University, and the Malaysia-America Society (MAS), the event brought together US government officials, diplomats, industry experts, and academics to explore Malaysia’s vision for ASEAN’s future under the theme of “Inclusivity and Sustainability.”
The colloquium aimed to discuss Malaysia’s vision for ASEAN’s future while raising awareness of its ASEAN Chairmanship priorities for 2025 through discussions on regional cooperation, economic integration, and security challenges.
In her opening remarks, the embassy’s Chargé d’Affaires, Khaeriah Zaehera Abd Kayyum, highlighted Malaysia’s focus on reinforcing ASEAN Centrality, enhancing intra-regional trade and investment, and promoting inclusivity and sustainability.
The three-panel discussions explored key aspects of Malaysia’s Chairmanship agenda namely “ASEAN Regionalism and the Future of Regional Cooperation,” “Fostering Peace and Stability in ASEAN: Malaysia’s Role in the Political-Security Community Vision 2045,” and “Building an Integrated and Resilient ASEAN Economy for 2045.”
The panel featured prominent dignitaries, including senior Malaysian diplomats, US government officials, former ambassadors, leading academics, and regional policy experts such as Deputy Assistant Secretary of US Department of State Andrew R. Herrup, Chair Department of Foreign Policy and Global Security, American University Ambassador (ret.) Piper Campbell and President and CEO of US-ASEAN Business Council Ambassador (ret.) Ted Osius.
The discussions reinforced Malaysia’s commitment to strengthening ASEAN’s economic integration, security cooperation, and sustainable development, ensuring that all member states benefit from collective progress and innovation.
