RABAT, Feb 27 (Bernama-MAP) -- Moroccan football club RS Berkane welcomed a ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) confirming its victory over Algeria’s Union Sportive de la Médina (USM) Algiers in the semi-finals of the 2023–24 CAF (Confederation of African Football) Confederation Cup, Moroccan News Agency (MAP) reported.

In a statement on Wednesday, the club said it had received the CAS decision, which rejected USM Algiers’ appeal to annul the results of both legs and impose sanctions on Berkane.

“The ruling upholds RS Berkane’s victory without any penalties, a decision that has been met with great satisfaction by our supporters,” the club said.

The CAS decision effectively ends the dispute, cementing Berkane’s place in the tournament’s final standings.

The CAF Confederation Cup is Africa’s second-tier club competition, featuring top teams that did not qualify for the CAF Champions League.

The 2023–24 edition saw intense competition, with clubs from across the continent battling for the prestigious title.

RS Berkane, a two-time champion of the tournament, has been a dominant force in recent years, further solidifying its reputation with this latest triumph.
