LABUAN, Feb 28 (Bernama) -- The Labuan Faculty of International Finance (LFIF) at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) and the Association of Labuan Banks (ALB) have signed a letter of intent (LOI) to collaborate on international finance education and research.

LFIF dean and associate professor Dr Geoffrey Harvey Tanakinja said the partnership aims to bridge academia and the banking industry, focusing on human capital development in Labuan’s financial sector.

Under the LoI, both parties will introduce a micro-credential course “Introduction to Anti-Money Laundering” to enhance financial compliance knowledge among students and industry professionals.

The partnership includes research funding agreements to support studies in finance, compliance, and banking, along with capacity-building programmes and industry-related initiatives.

The partnership equips graduates with skills for the evolving financial industry, he said.

“Synergy between the academia and industry is key to developing high-quality human capital. We can add value to students and the banking community via this collaboration,” he said.

ALB president Nor Rashidi Mohammad said the partnership will create opportunities for students and industry practitioners to enhance their expertise, in line with the global financial sector’s evolving demands.
