ISTANBUL, Feb 28 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- Scotland's Rangers FC has issued a guide for fans travelling to Istanbul to attend a UEFA Europa League match against Fenerbahce during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, Anadolu Ajansi (AA) reported.
Ramadan, which covers most of March, is a sacred month marked by fasting during daylight hours, prayer, reflection, and community, as well as giving aid to those less fortunate.
In a statement, the club gave details on the match set for next Thursday, including information on security measures and transportation to the stadium, and told supporters of some Ramadan traditions.
"While this should not significantly impact travelling supporters, please be respectful of local customs. Avoid eating, drinking, smoking, or chewing gum in public during daylight hours," the statement said.
Especially as Istanbul attracts many foreign tourists, it noted that bars and restaurants will be available, but added: “Avoid playing loud music or dancing in public spaces. Refrain from swearing in public.”
The tourist magnets of Sultanahmet, Taksim, and Beyoglu were among the suggested areas for fans to sightsee.
The UEFA Europa League Round of 16 first leg match between Istanbul’s Fenerbahce and the Rangers is set for Thursday, March 6.
The rematch in Scotland comes a week later, on March 13.
